The Falklands War Then and Now Gordon Ramsey 9781870067713 Books
I have read almost all of the books in English covering the Falklands (Islas Malvinas) War. While Nick van der Bijl's books might have a bit more detail on the land war than this one, it is by far the best all-around book available. It is actually two books. The captions for the pictures give the history of the conflict as described by the editor. I found tidbits of information here that are not covered anywhere else. The main text is an oral history from the people who experienced it. This includes not only the soldiers, sailors and airmen, but the Kelpers and even a few wives/widows.The collection of pictures is truly amazing. It is an over-sized book (and heavy) and there are pictures on every page. The editor has contacted many of the veterans themselves and obtained the rights to use the photos they took during the war. Photos of many of the planes are included as well as their crash sites if they happened to hit the ground at a high rate of speed. There are pictures of many of the men who died as well as their gravestones. The "Then and Now" portion of the title reflects the editor's attempts to find the location where the original photographs were taken and show the current (2006) view. Some parts of the Falklands have changed significantly and others not at all. The maps are first rate also.
The book is expensive, no doubt about it. But if you have any interest in the Falklands War or military history this book is worth every penny (and a bargain on shipping, it must weigh ten pounds). I am glad I found this book towards the end of my studies as it would have made reading the other works on this war much less enjoyable.

In 1982, Argentina rashly gambled that a full-scale invasion of the Falklands Islands - ownership of which had been disputed with Great Britain for over a century - would put an end to years of political wrangling. However Britain's response was to immediately dispatch a task force to recover the islands by force if necessary. The 'conflict' which followed (a formal declaration of war was never given) lasted ten weeks from Argentine invasion to British liberation,Gordon Ramsey,The Falklands War Then and Now,After the Battle,1870067711

This is an amazing book the amount of research done is staggering, each picture of then and now is accompanied by interviews of the veterans from the British and Argentinian armed forces giving a balanced view of what it was like for the men on both side who were actually there.
Must be one of the best books about the Falklands war. With over 600 pages, this is one large and heavy book. I have a lot of books about the war. But this one gives a much better understanding of what happened there.
Another point of view this part of history, many people from both country are and were marked for this event; and the search of what's happened there? Is a lighthouse in his life.
Great product, very good and incredible photografic book, with places and events where part of our history was developed, and also a great recognition to all those men and women who fougth there
Excellent, Excellent,Excellent.
This is one of those have to have books from cover to cover. This book is large book chock full of photo's and written with passion by Mr Ramsey who has turned out many other great books on the Channel Islands, Arnhem (which I own).
With out giving it away the author covers everything needed to understand the battles and history.
Price is high but well worth it.
